For a while now, it has been quite hard to escape the phenomenal media attention that entrepreneurship has gotten. From both online and offline, to business inspired television shows to celebrity business people, the reach has been far wide. As much as this rise in awareness has given people an idea or a hope to do something involving the entrepreneurial spirit, some are simply just not interested. To them, they enjoy what they have been doing or intending to pursue later in their life.

And that is perfectly alright.

The world needs its fair share of professionals in the different fields. I am not suggesting that being an entrepreneur is better in any way or form as compared to the other professions. That would be both ignorant and foolish. Having said that, there are quite a number of things that can be benefited from this all elusive term, entrepreneurship. Well, not so much the act of doing or being in business, but from having the mindset and skill set of entrepreneurs.

They have it different than most other professions as they have little or no dependence on anyone else to put food on their table. That has also given them more control and authority on their lives. Their daily decisions have a direct impact to their income and lifestyle. While this might cause the envy for some, especially those that are unhappy at their work/workplace, others might find the added responsibilities burdensome.

Regardless which camp you fall into, there is a considerable whole lot of gems that can be acquired from learning or reading about them - from having the courage to start/make something, the determined resolve to ignore the masses and their constant criticisms of how what they were doing will not work out, the discipline to pull themselves out of bed each day to work tirelessly on their business despite not having to answer to any form of authority and the relentless passion that they pour into their work.

We can all benefit from having a more determined, courageous, disciplined and passionate individuals going at it at their respective choice of profession. More than that, anyone can reap the benefit from having an entrepreneurial mindset and skill set. An entrepreneurial person will be more likely to pick him or herself up quicker than someone who is not. And in this uncertain times, where the global economy is becoming less sure of where it is heading next, having the skills and mindset of an entrepreneur will surely come in handy. In the least, when the tide indeed decided to turn against you, those skills and mindset will not leave you defeated and powerless.

It is worth noting that we do not need everyone to become entrepreneurs. If that is your choice, great. Bring in more value to the world. That will be very much welcomed. More importantly, constantly remind yourself and those whom you care about to study and learn from these entrepreneurs on their journey, the story behind the glitz that the media is so fond of parading and smacking into our faces. They are ordinary people who have done some extraordinary things and that is something that the world and yourself can definitely benefit from.
